Flo Rida

Flo Rida hit the stage at the Roxy on Sunday night with the help of some special guests, including Flavor Flav, Pleasure P and 7-year-old B-Boy prodigy, Jalen.

Flo Rida teamed up with MySpace Music to bring an unforgettable free show to the legendary west coast venue, in support of his new album R.O.O.T.S. which dropped on March 31.

The first single off of his sophomore album, “Right Round,” has broken all previous digital download records, having locked in the #1 spot for 12 weeks, until last week when it was pushed to #2 by Lady GaGa’s “Poker Face.” Now Flo Rida is bringing that same success it to the stage, with an upcoming show in London on April 13, and more Stateside dates scheduled for later this year …

Johnny Marr From The Smiths: Why I Was So Pumped To Meet Him …

April 7, 2009 · Filed Under Music News · Comment

By April Richardson

I moved to Los Angeles from Atlanta a little over three years ago, and in that time some pretty awesome stuff has happened — but nothing as awesome as what happened Sunday, when I ran into legendary Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr on the street. (The Smiths were Morrissey’s band during the 1980s, for anyone who doesn’t know!)

I was just walking out of my neighborhood pizza place on an average Sunday afternoon when I looked over and thought to myself, “Weird, that guy looks a lot like Johnny Marr. … Uh, wait a minute, that IS Johnny Marr!” Being a HUGE Smiths fan (that’s the understatement of the century, by the way), I just had to go up and talk to him — and, lucky for me, he was charming and incredibly nice. We chatted for a while and he revealed that he was in L.A. for a bit because he was recording an album with the Cribs, and after photos and handshakes I left him to continue on with his shopping.

Now, look — sure, the Smiths are one of the greatest bands of all time, but Johnny Marr is responsible for so much more than the sweet riffs dancing under Morrissey’s genius lyrics. Many of you may know him as being a part of Modest Mouse’s latest album, but he was also one-half of Electronic (with New Order’s Bernard Sumner) and has worked with and written songs for or with Billy Bragg, the Pet Shop Boys, The The, the Pretenders and Talking Heads, just to name a few.

To put it simply, if one man could be held responsible for a large percentage of my all-time favorite songs, it would be Johnny Marr — and chances are the guitarists in many of your favorite bands were influenced by him too.

WrestleMania XXV A Triumph Despite Kid Rock, Mickey Rourke

April 7, 2009 · Filed Under Music News · Comment

Triple HThere were moments during WrestleMania 25 that I loved and that will forever have a place in my heart (I’m a wrestling fanatic) and in sports entertainment history. But none of them involved the celebrities who participated in last night’s show.

For months, there was back-and-forth about whether Mickey Rourke would wrestle Chris Jericho at Mania. Ultimately, the acclaimed actor showed up and sat ringside. After disposing of legends Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat, “Rowdy” Roddy Piper and Jimmy “Superfly” Snuka, the brash gladiator invited Rourke in the ring. Jericho had been calling Mick out for several weeks during airings of “WWE Raw.”

Rourke finally got in the ring for a confrontation. A couple of missed left jabs and a phantom left hook — and down went Jericho. Former boxer Rourke got the last laugh. Personally, I would have done without Rourke or the three legends. I would have loved to see Jericho face Ric Flair or my fave, “Stone Cold” Steve Austin.

Same thing with Kid Rock. He briefly turned Mania into a mini concert. I like Bob and all, all, but I’d much rather that the WWE showed the tag-team unification match as promised instead of relegating it to “dark match” status. Damn.

Nicole of the Pussycat Dolls performed “America the Beautiful” to open the show. I was cool with that, but I really would have loved to see her mix it up with some WWE Divas in a bikini, evening gown or pudding match. LOL! I’m only serious.

OK, you wanna hear about the matches? Money in the Bank tore the house down and Undertaker vs. Shawn Michaels was one of the best bouts ever! Ever!

Minutes after Run-DMC were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame tonight, we got an e-mail from Eric “Shake” James, one of the late Jam Master Jay’s closest friends, who was at the ceremony in Cleveland:
To me this is the greatest night in hip-hop!!! Run-DMC in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, wow! Remember the “King of Rock” video? “You don’t belong here; this is for rock stars only.” Now we’re here, and we do belong!!!
